Day 1 of a 30 Day Blog Challenge: “Explain My Blog Name”

I have received a 30 day blog challenge. It is something that has caught my eye and the suggestions for each day are fun. I have a lot on my plate all the time, so I won’t exactly promise to do each day. But I’d like to try. It will also be a way to share who I am with you.

There has been a lapse in my writing for more than a month and the reason is written plain as day in my blog name. I have had More On My Plate over the past weeks and writing has taken a backseat in my daily life, though is ever present in my mind. Our life as a family is so rich, often challenging, and full of adventure and I long to share all that is so important to me.

When I first decided to start my blog about 9 months ago, I interacted with family and friends about my intent to share about our foster care and adoption journeys, as well as our daily adventures, and to offer inspiration and encouragement. I asked for input on ideas, names and a logo. A friend, who has also adopted trauma kids, suggested “More On My Plate” as it could indicate both the intense work as well as all the fun and the activities that life with 8+ kids bring. It was perfect!

When I asked about a logo, we had a lot of fun with silly ideas… serving up kids on a platter, a heaping pile of laundry, plates piled with images of daily activities. I finally happened upon an image and worked it into a circle of little people (like a plate) all in different family-friendly colors. And…. with my first post “A Beginning,” a new blog was born.

It continues to bring me pleasure and the focus on writing has made me more aware (and GRATEFUL) for every little piece that makes our family so interesting, intense and beautiful.
